Let me tell you a bit about myself…

From Montreal

I grew up in the Montreal area. That’s still « home » when I’m in Canada. I worked as a veterinary assistant, and then a registered nurse. Shortly after I came to faith at age 19, I sensed a call to missions. I had always wanted to become a veterinarian, but God had other plans!

Ministry

I’m an ordained minister with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada.

My ministry journey began in 1989, when I left for China to teach university English. I had opportunities there to share the gospel with people who had never heard the name « Jesus. » That deeply impacted my life and ministry.

Here are some other highlights.

  • Pastoring a First Nations Church (Kahnawake, QC) for 15 years.
  • Serving as a chaplain in public primary schools in Quebec
  • Teaching modular Bible College courses on missions
  • Preaching and teaching in North America, Africa, and Asia.

I’ve been to the southern-most points of Africa and India, and to the western tip of Africa. I’ve shared the gospel on television in DRCongo, and on radio in Alaska.

Doctoral Studies

Equippers need to be equipped. I’ve completed an MDiv in missions. Currently, I’m working on a PhD in Intercultural Studies. Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (Springfield, MO) offers a great program. It’s designed for missionaries on the field, and keeps research and writing directly tied to ministry. I’m researching the factors that catalyze missions sending in Uganda.

Serving In Uganda

In Uganda, I’m usually « Rev. Joy » or « Auntie Joy. »

I’ve been serving in Uganda since 2008. I prefer karo over matooke, think Lake Bunyonyi is one of the most spectacularly beautiful places in the world, have a bias towards Mount Elgon coffee, and love millet porridge.
